Eligibility

To be eligible for admission to DHU as a study abroad student you must be a registered undergraduate student and have completed at least one year full-time study at your home institution. At the time of application, you must have completed at least one semester at your home institution.
Students who have already finished undergraduate program are not eligible for the Study Abroad program.

Japanese Language Proficiency

Applicants must possess sufficient proficiency in Japanese to understand class instructions. You must have studied at least one term of Japanese language or the equivalent. You must have achieved over level 2 of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test or the equivalent. Please note that courses are taught in Japanese at DHU.

What is the Level 2 of JLPT?
The examinee has mastered grammar to a relatively high level, knows around 1,000 kanji and 6,000 words, and has the ability to converse, read, and write about matters of a general nature. This level is normally reached after studying Japanese for around 600 hours and after completion of an intermediate course.

How to Apply

Please use the application form at the back of this prospectus. You must complete all sections of the application form and return it to the International Office at DHU, together with any additional documentation requested. Please print clearly using BLOCK LETTERS. Unreadable or incomplete applications cannot be processed.

The following documentation is required for all applicants:

  1. A completed application form
  2. A current academic transcript (include an English translation if necessary)
  3. One academic reference in Japanese or English. It should be from a member of staff at your home institution who is familiar with your ability in the subject areas you wish to pursue at DHU
  4. A brief statement outlining why you wish to study at DHU (about 500 words)
  5. A Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Certificate of Result and Scores (if you have not taken the test, a letter from your Japanese language instructor can be substituted).
  6. A copy of the personal information page of your passport
  7. Three passport sized photos. Please print your name on the back.
  8. *A completed Certificate of Eligibility application form
  9. *One official bank statement

The application fee is 20,000 yen, non-refundable. This fee must be transferred by Telegraphic Transfer. Checks are not accepted. Payment of the telegraphic transfer is to be made into the following account:

Application Deadlines

The deadlines for the receipt of applications depend on the period of study which you are applying:

Semester Deadline for Application
One year (April - January) 10 December 2011
Fall semester (September - January) 10 May 2011
Spring Semester (April - July) 10 December 2011

Applications are processed in the order in which they are received. We encourage early application. We will contact you within three weeks of your application. When you are accepted, the international office will send you a Letter of Acceptance.
Students who have already finished undergraduate program are not eligible for the Study Abroad program.
